Raised between Palm Springs and the small dairy town of Hilmar, CA, Matthew White’s musical journey began with a barn-side basketball hoop, a broken family, and the gift of a guitar from his Uncle Jerry. When Jerry passed away, he left that 1972 Gibson ES325 and vintage Fender Bandmaster to Matthew and it became his lifeline, his tool for turning pain, anger, and experience into music. Writing his first song at fourteen, he quickly discovered that music wasn’t just expression, it was therapy.
Matthew’s influences stretch from Michael Jackson and Carole King to Nirvana, Tribe Called Quest, and grunge’s raw honesty. His sound evolved into melodic grunge rock, a style marked by presence, vulnerability, and the ability to lose himself completely on stage. Fans and peers alike recognize his “presence”, a rare ability to connect so deeply that it feels like every lyric is sung directly to the listener.
Through his career, Matthew has played everywhere from Nashville’s Music Row to house parties in California, to unforgettable shows powered by generators on riverbanks. He’s released two full albums, numerous singles, and continues to write for The Matthew Allen Project. His proudest moment came when he left a label to start his own, creating his own merchandise and finally holding proof of his independence in his hands.
Matthew hit the jackpot when he visited a venue called The Chill Room in Tempe Az. There, he met Drummer Vincent Cartagini from the Queens New York and Multi Instrumentalist, Composer and Producer Adam Broder from Phoenix Az. Vincent, who has been in various bands over the years took a leap of faith to open a Kava Kratom Bar called “The Chill Room.” Come to find out, he played the drums. So they started jamming and before you knew it the sound was coming together. There has always been a vision of a melodic grunge rock band with a backing orchestra in the mind of Matthew Allen. Finally the sounds in his mind are forming together and you can catch them live coming soon!
